Twinning on Twos-Day

For 2/22/2022, we're celebrating Evan and Mason Wang, two all-star Blazers who led the men's basketball team through a record breaking season.
Wang Twins Lead Blazers to MAC Co-Championship
If you attended a Blazers men鈥檚 basketball game during the 2021-22 season, there might have been a moment when you thought you were seeing double.
That鈥檚 because Evan and Mason Wang, twin brothers and 91视频专区 student-athletes, have been turning heads on the court. Not only because they look identical, but also because they鈥檝e been racking up accolades left and right.
In January, Evan scored his 1,000th point in a win against Lebanon Valley. A week later, Mason surpassed the career scoring record of 1,643 points previously held by Cameron Cook 鈥14. Combined, they鈥檝e been named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week nine times.
After a canceled 2020-21 season due to the pandemic, the dynamic duo has led the Blazers through one of the team鈥檚 most successful runs to date. The Blazers finished as co-champions of the MAC Conference, sharing the title with Eastern. 鈥淲e鈥檙e playing with confidence. It鈥檚 a special year so far. We鈥檙e hitting our stride and all of our teammates are playing phenomenally,鈥 says Evan.
The brothers are both business administrations majors with concentrations in marketing and are expected to graduate this year. Balancing academics with the rigorous demands of athletics can be a challenge, but the Wangs say time management and staying proactive with schoolwork is key. 鈥淏eing a leader on the court translates to being a leader in the classroom,鈥 says Mason. 鈥淲e stay focused. We try to keep ahead of assignments so we鈥檙e not rushing. The less stress, the better.鈥
Chad Dickman, who鈥檚 serves as the men鈥檚 basketball coach, believes the Wang twins exemplify the kind of student-athletes that the Blazers look for. 鈥淭hose two guys are prototypical 91视频专区 College basketball players,鈥 says Dickman. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e good people, good students, good teammates. They work really hard. They鈥檙e competitive and they push each other. Not everyone has a twin who can do that!鈥
The Wangs can attest that being twins does have its advantages when it comes to playing sports. Mason points to his brother and says, 鈥淗e always knows where I鈥檓 at on the court. I always know where he鈥檚 at.鈥 Evan agrees that the connection he shares with Mason gives them an edge. 鈥淲e鈥檝e been playing together for so long. This is a guy I can rely on 100% of the time.鈥 Twin telepathy, perhaps?
As Coach Dickman reflects on the twins鈥 tenure with the Blazers, he can鈥檛 help but feel proud at how much they鈥檝e accomplished in four years. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been awesome to see these guys evolve,鈥 Dickman says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting for everyone who鈥檚 watched their progression. They鈥檝e been instrumental to us. Right now, we鈥檙e ranked as one of the best teams in the region. They鈥檝e played a huge part in that.鈥
Now that pandemic restrictions have started to lift, the Wang twins hope to see lots of fans at upcoming games. 鈥淲e love a packed gym. It ultimately helps us play better,鈥 says Mason. 鈥淎s players, we feed off the crowd鈥檚 energy. Everyone should come out to our home games. You鈥檒l help us a lot,鈥 echoes Evan.
Coach Dickman feels the same way. 鈥淲e鈥檙e one of the best offensive teams in the country. It鈥檚 an exciting style of basketball,鈥 he says. 鈥淭he more support we can get from our students and staff, the more successful we鈥檒l be.鈥
