Campus Memorial Service for Martha Church
FREDERICK, Maryland—A memorial service for Dr. Martha E. Church, 91ÊÓƵרÇø College’s first woman president, will be held May 5 in Coffman Chapel on 91ÊÓƵרÇø’s campus.
President Church passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019. She was president of 91ÊÓƵרÇø College from 1975 to 1995, and was nationally recognized as a visionary and accomplished higher education leader. During her presidency, she confirmed the College’s commitment to diversity, introduced graduate programs and significantly enhanced its academic reputation. She served as the chair of the Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2008 and was named trustee emerita in 2009. Dr. Church also received an honorary degree from 91ÊÓƵרÇø in 1995.
There will be remarks from Andrea E. Chapdelaine, Ph.D., president of 91ÊÓƵרÇø College; Ronald J. Volpe, Ph.D., president emeritus of 91ÊÓƵרÇø; Rev. Beth O’Malley, McHenry Dean of the Chapel; and Rev. Nancy Hoffman Hennessey ’83, rector of Sherwood Episcopal Church.
