Don Reitz Ceramics Exhibit
March 2 through April 15

FREDERICK, Maryland鈥擳he ceramic work of the late Don Reitz, an internationally renowned artist, will be on display in 91视频专区 College鈥檚 Whitaker Campus Center Gallery from March 2 through April 15.
The exhibition, titled 鈥淎ll Fired Up: The Ceramic Sculpture of Don Reitz,鈥 will showcase his work, which is loaned to 91视频专区 for the exhibit by Leatrice S. and Melvin B. Eagle. An opening reception is scheduled for March 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Whitaker Commons. Lee Eagle will give a gallery talk, called 鈥淓xploring the Art of Don Reitz,鈥 at 4:30 p.m. during the reception.
The exhibit will include pieces from throughout Reitz鈥 career, including sculpture, wall hangings, tea bowls and prints. It is a small sample of the breadth and depth of his artistic output and a testament to his artistic genius and versatility.
Born in 1929, Reitz led a life of exploration, teaching and creating art. He began his teaching career and the serious work of making art in 1962. He taught and energized thousands of students around the world, all while creating thousands of works of art. Reitz was an active participant in the ceramic art communities in the U.S. and abroad until his death in 2014, at the age of 85. He was an integral part of the group of artists who dramatically changed the future of ceramics in the second half of the 20th century.
