Young Scholars are students who are interested in and show academic potential in engineering and science but who do not have the resources, advocacy or traditional supports associated with success. The program strives to provide these scaffolds for students over time to prepare them for academic success.

FCPS has the only Young Scholars program in Maryland and is a leader in assisting other districts across the country with establishing similar programs. Its original Young Scholar students, identified in grade 1, are now rising sophomores in high school. There are about 150 Young Scholars across the six schools.
