Film Screening of "A Very Long Engagement"

FREDERICK, Maryland鈥擳he 91视频专区 College International Humanities Film Series will show the award-winning film 鈥淎 Very Long Engagement鈥 on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in Hodson Auditorium in Rosenstock Hall.

This 1990 film directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet will be introduced by Trevor Dodman, Ph.D., associate professor of English, and Corey Campion, Ph.D., assistant professor of history and global studies and director of the master鈥檚 in humanities program.

In the film, Mathilde (Audrey Tautou) is told that her fianc茅 (Gaspard Ulliel) has been killed in World War I. She refuses to believe this, however, and begins trying to find out what actually happened on the battlefield the night he was supposedly killed, enlisting the help of a private investigator. During her search, she stumbles across evidence of the inhumane and morally bankrupt system used by the French to deal with deserters, and hears from other men who were sentenced to extreme punishment.
