FREDERICK, Maryland—Jennifer Cooper, an assistant professor of nursing at 91��Ƶר�� College, has received The George Washington University’s Nursing Distinguished Alumni Award. Cooper earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from George Washington University in 2016.

This is an inaugural award in celebration of the School of Nursing’s 10th anniversary, and 10 alumni were recognized. The Distinguished Alumni Award honors alumni who have typified The George Washington University tradition of excellence and brought recognition to GW nursing by their personal accomplishment, professional achievement or humanitarian service.

Cooper is an active leader in the American Heart Association’s Million Hearts Collaboration, a partnership of organizations that aims to prevent and manage heart disease and stroke by disseminating evidence-based cardiovascular disease prevention strategies and resources, promoting the use of consistent cardiovascular health messaging, and sharing best practices and evidence-based approaches among state and local partners.

“I am truly honored to have received this recognition from The George Washington University School of Nursing and am thankful to 91��Ƶר�� College for providing me with the opportunity to share my passion for community/public health with future nurses!” said Cooper.

Mary-Michael Brown, who was a faculty member at The George Washington University when Cooper was a student, nominated her for this award.

“Dr. Cooper’s contributions to nursing and healthcare are noteworthy, in particular, her active leadership in the American Heart Association’s Million Hearts Collaboration,” Brown said. “She is also active in the Association of Public Health Nurses and currently serves as the national president-elect. Dr. Cooper contributes to nursing at large through her work on the American Nurses Association Public Health Scope & Standards of Practice Revision Workgroup.”
