Professor Elizabeth Knapp Wins Poetry Award


FREDERICK, Maryland鈥擡lizabeth Knapp, Ph.D., associate professor of English at 91视频专区 College, has won the 2019 Jean Feldman Poetry Prize for her second collection of poems, 鈥淩equiem with an Amulet in Its Beak,鈥 which will be published by the Washington Writers鈥 Publishing House in October.
The award includes a $1,000 cash prize, a book launch at Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington, D.C., and a reading at the Writer鈥檚 Center in Bethesda.
Knapp previously published 鈥淭he Spite House,鈥 winner of the 2010 De Novo Poetry Prize. Her other honors include the 2018 Robert H. Winner Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America and a 2017 Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award. Her poems have recently appeared or are forthcoming in The Kenyon Review, The Massachusetts Review, North American Review, and Quarterly West, among others.
Her areas of specialization include American literature and modern and contemporary American poetry. Within these broad fields, she teaches a variety of poetry and literature courses, such as women鈥檚 poetry, African-American poetry, forms in poetry, and writing on art. She also teaches a range of creative writing courses, from introductory workshops in fiction and poetry to creative nonfiction. Knapp is co-director of the creative writing concentration at 91视频专区.
