Transgender Author Speaks at 91视频专区 College

FREDERICK, Maryland鈥擳ransgender author and activist Meredith Russo will visit 91视频专区 College on Oct. 9 to discuss issues affecting the LGBTQ community. Her talk, titled 鈥淏uilding a Revolution Through Dreams: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Representation,鈥 is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Hodson Auditorium in Rosenstock Hall.
Russo is a novelist and public speaker from Chattanooga, Tennessee. She earned degrees in creative writing and women鈥檚 studies from the University of Tennessee. Her award-winning debut novel, 鈥淚f I Was Your Girl,鈥 released in 2016 and won the Stonewall Book Award, an award that recognizes exceptional merit relating to the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender experience. The book also won the Walter Dean Myers Diversity Award, which celebrates books written by diverse authors, and the Lambda Literary Award, given to works that explore LGBT themes.
Russo is a contributor for the New York Times, Radical Hope, (Don鈥檛) Call Me Crazy, and Meet Cute. Her second novel, 鈥淏irthday,鈥 is forthcoming. She has thousands of followers on social media, where she frequently speaks about politics, gender, writing and publishing. She is one of only a few prominent transgender women speaking to transgender issues and creating transgender art.
